For more information on the CPI see the Consumer Price Index Manual, Concepts and Methods, 2020
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures changes over time in the general level of prices of goods and services that households use or pay for. This basket of goods and services are weighted in line with their importance to households. In compiling a CPI, a base period must be used; the base period is set to 100 and it is used to compare values from one period to the next.
The inflation rate measures the percentage change in the price of a basket of goods between periods.
Inflation rate (end of period) measures the percentage change at the end of two (2) given periods.
Inflation rate (period average) measures the average percentage change between two or more periods.
End of Period is calculated as period over period. For example, monthly data is calculated as June of the current year over May of the current year; quarterly is calculated as June of the current year over March of the current year; and annual is calculated as December of the current year over December of the previous year.
Anguilla, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines compile CPI on the 2010 base year.
For Anguilla, CPI data are compiled quarterly.
