Governor Updates Media in Montserrat on Recent Developments in ECCU
Food security and renewable energy were two of the key issues the Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Timothy N. J. Antoine, addressed during his recent engagement with media practitioners in Montserrat.
In the second of a two-part ECCB Connects programme, which features highlights from the media engagement, in response to a question on food security Governor Antoine said the issue of food security was of great concern to the ECCB, and that the Bank was a strong advocate for promoting food security throughout the region. He added that the citizens of the ECCU must make a commitment to buy and eat local to increase the demand for local products and reduce the cost of high imports.
With respect to renewable energy, Governor Antoine advised the media that the ECCB was a strong proponent of this important aspect of the region’s development. The Governor also expressed the view that, with the construction of homes, sustainability had to be forefront in mind. He suggested that homeowners consider the installation of solar panels and water cisterns.
