ECCB Recognises Individuals for Exemplary Service and Contribution to the Bank

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) culminated its 40th anniversary celebrations with its 40th Anniversary Gala and Awards Ceremony last Saturday, 9th December in the Grand Ballroom of the St. Kitts Marriott. On that occasion, ECCB Governor Timothy N. J. Antoine acknowledged the exemplary contributions and service of key figures without whom the central bank would not have been established and secured its impressive achievements over the past four decades.  


Governor-General of St Kitts and Nevis, Her Excellency Dame Marcella Althea Liburd GCMG, JP was on hand to present awards to the special honorees.


These awardees are:

  1. St. Kitts and Nevis’ First Prime Minister and First Living National Hero, Dr the Right Excellent and Right Honourable Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds (the sole surviving signatory of the ECCB Agreement signed on 5 July, 1983, and former ECCB Monetary Council Member), who was recognised for his Vision and Exemplary Contribution;
  2. Former Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, the Right Honourable Dr Denzil Llewellyn Douglas (former ECCB Monetary Council Chairman, as well as former Council Member for almost 20 years), who was recognised for his Exemplary Contribution;
  3. Sir Errol N. Allen (Deputy Managing Director of the East Caribbean Currency Authority, the precursor to the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, and Deputy Governor of the ECCB from 1983 to 2005), who was recognised for his Exemplary Service;
  4. Mr. Trevor O. B. Brathwaite, (Deputy Governor of the ECCB from 2006 to 2021), who was recognised for his Exemplary Service;
  5. Lady Lynda Venner (widow of the late Sir K. Dwight Venner, Governor of the ECCB from 1989 to 2015), who was recognised for her Exemplary Contribution;
  6. Mr. Charles L. A. Wilkin CMG, KC (for providing legal services as external counsel to the ECCB), was recognised for his Exemplary Contribution; and
  7. The late Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton, GCMG, CVO, KC, JP, LLD, former Governor-General of St Kitts and Nevis (for providing legal drafting services to the ECCB), was recognised posthumously for his Exemplary Contribution.
  8. Mrs. Jennifer Nero, retired Managing Director of the ECCB
  9. Mr. Trevor Blake, retired Director of the ECCB and the current Managing Director of the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange were also recognised.
  10. Finally, Mr. Wendell E. Lawrence OBE, who served as Financial Secretary of St Kitts and Nevis for 16 years until his retirement from that position in 2005 – and continued serving on the ECCB Board of Directors until 2015 was recognised. Mrs. Hilary Hazel, the current Financial Secretary since 2012 and ECCB Board member since 2015 was also recognised for helping to facilitate the operations of the ECCB.
