October Is Financial
Literacy Month In The ECCU Since 2002, October
has been celebrated as Financial Literacy Month in the eight
member countries of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.
The theme for Financial Literacy Month 2007
is “Save For Your Future”.
The logo portrays a man tending his financial garden so that
it can continue to bear dollars to secure his future. It is
intended to demonstrate that saving for one’s future
requires consistent and focused application of sound money
management principles, and that the financial victories do
come, usually in incremental stages.
During the month, a series of community activities will focus
on “why save”, “how to save” and “ways
to save”. These are expected to serve as a catalyst
for the delivery of financial literacy programmes in the schools
and wider communities.
The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank collaborates with member
governments, financial institutions, private sector bodies,
the media and community-based groups in the realisation of
the month of activities.
The decision to celebrate October as Financial Literacy
Month was taken by ECCU member governments in 2002.
