The ECCU Heads of Governments, the ECCB Monetary
Council and the OECS Economic Union Task Force held a regional
interactive discussion with the public via videoconference on
Thursday, 23 July 2009 at 8:00 pm.
The videoconference which lasted over two hours addressed:
(i) The OECS Economic Union, and
(ii) The ECCU Eight Point Stabilisation and Growth Programme.
This was an historic conference as it was the first time
that a regional public discussion with top government officials
and other leaders had been organised to advance the economic
agenda of the region. Additionally, the economy and the way
forward for the countries of the OECS are on everybody’s
mind and as such a discussion of this magnitude is not only
timely but also necessary.
Following the presentations, the public was given the opportunity
to engage the officials with questions and comments on the
issues arising from the presentations either via face to face
in the case of the studio audiences or via internet or text
messages.
