Lecturer: Professor Clive Y Thomas
Professor Thomas holds a doctorate from the London School of Economics, University of London. He is Professor of Economics and Director, Institute of Development Studies, University of Guyana. Professor Thomas has taught at Universities in Canada, the United States, Britain, Africa, and the Caribbean. He was the George Beckford Professor of Caribbean Economy at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, 1998-1999.

Professor Thomas is the author/co-author of 15 books/research monographs and over 130 academic articles and contributions to books.

He has presented invited conference papers to well over 120 academic conferences, symposia, and seminars.

Professor Thomas has been a member of a number of Boards, Committees, and Expert Groups.

He was the Co-ordinator of the Regional Programme of Monetary Studies. He was a member of the Commonwealth Group of Experts on the Changing World Economy and North-South Relations (1990-1991) and the UNDP Group of Experts on Designing the Future: South-South Cooperation in Science and Technology, 2000. He has served as a Member of the WHO/PAHO Advisory Committee on Health Research, 1996-1999. He was appointed in 2002 to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Millennium Project Task Force to monitor the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals. He was also recently appointed to the Distinguished Group of Experts on the Caribbean Commission on Health and Development and UNCTAD’s High Level Expert Group on Commodity-Dependent Countries.

He is also on the Editorial Board of several academic journals.

Honours and Awards
Professor Thomas was awarded National Honours in Guyana, the Cacique Crown of Honour, CCH, 1993, for his contributions to education.

He was the Awardee of the 2001 George Beckford Award for Outstanding Contribution to Caribbean Economy offered by the Association of Caribbean Economists.
