Lecturer: Gerald M. Meier
Professor Gerald M. Meier is Konosuke Matsushita Professor of International Economics and Policy Analysis, Emeritus, at Stanford University. Prior to this, he had been Chester F. Hubbard Professor of Economics at Wesleyan University, and had also taught at Williams College, Yale University, and the University of Oxford.

Professor Meier holds degrees from Reed College (B.A.), University of Oxford (B.Litt.), Harvard University (Ph.D.), and Wesleyan University, (M.A. Honorary).


In recent years, Professor Meier has lectured in South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Mexico, Jamaica, Africa, and Europe. As a consultant to the World Bank, he has been on three Bank missions to China. He has participated in Executive Education programs for Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, Bank of America, Citicorp, Wells Fargo Bank, First Interstate Bank, Banco de Mexico, Industrial Bank of Japan, Fuji Bank, Goodyear International, and International Development Center of Japan.

He has also been a consultant to Stanford Research Institution, National Science Foundation, Emergency Committee for Trade, Brookings Institution, United States AID, Oxford University Press, Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, Overseas Development Council, Overseas Development Institute, International Center for Economic Growth, and Overseas Development Administration (U.K.)

Professor Meier has published widely on issues of International Economics and Economic Development. Among his major works are: “Economic Development”, “International Trade and Development”, “Problems of Trade Policy”, “Problems of Cooperation for Development”, “Employment, Trade and Development”. “Pioneers in Development” and “Leading Issues in Economic Development”.
