Lecturer: Sir Alister McIntyre
Meredith Alister McIntyre is an economist by profession, and like Sir Arthur Lewis, is an alumnus of the London School of Economics (LSE). He has been a Secretary General of CARICOM, a Deputy Secretary General of UNCTAD, and an Assistant Secretary General at the UN Office of the Director General for Development and Economic Cooperation. He has lectured at the University of the West Indies, with visiting academic appointments at Princeton and Columbia Universities. His public service in the Caribbean region has included membership on a variety of advisory councils in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, Guyana and OECS countries. He recently demitted the
office of Vice-Chancellor of the Universityof the West Indies, and now holds the position of Chief Technical Advisor on the CARICOM Regional Negotiating Machinery.

He has spoken and published widely, among his titles are "The Effects of Reverse Preferences on Trade Among Developing Countries" (1974); "The Political Economy of Independence for the Leeward and Windward Islands" (1975); "The Role of the Economic Integration Process in Regional Development: The Caribbean Experience" (1976); "Review of Integration Movements in the Third World with particular reference to the Caribbean Community" (1983); "Opening our Windows to the World" (1992); and "Trends in the International Business Environment: Guidelines for the Caribbean Private Sector" (1993).

Sir Alister was knighted by Her Majesty The Queen in the 1992 New Year's Honour's List.
