Lecture: The Inaugural Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture - Caribbean Education and the Third Millenium

Lecturer: Professor Rex Nettleford

Rex Nettleford is Deputy Vice Chancellor and Professor of Continuing Studies of the University of the West Indies, and a leading Caribbean intellectual, writer and creative artist. He did his undergraduate work in History at the University of the West Indies, and as a Rhodes Scholar, pursued postgraduate studies in Politics at Oxford University, UK.

The Professor, a Jamaican by birth, has lectured around the world on development and cultural dynamics and is the author of such works as Mirror Mirror: Identity Race and Protest in Jamaica; Caribbean Cultural Identity;
The University of the West Indies: A Caribbean Response to the Challenge of Change, and lnward Stretch Outward Reach: A Voice from the Caribbean.

He is the founder, artistic director and principal choreographer of the renowned National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica. He is also the founding Director of Studies at the Trade Union Education Institute, UWI Jamaica, and an authority on the Caribbean labour movement.

Professor Nettleford has received Jamaica's high national honour of Order of Merit for his internationally acclaimed artistic and scholarly work.
